As part of their IB Unit, How We Express Ourselves, our Kindergarten students have just completed a two-week inquiry into different versions of the story The Gingerbread Man from around the world and different US regions.

In this IB Unit students learn about customs and celebrations, patterns in our world, and methods of communication.  They utilize the Key Concepts of Reflection in which students think about what they have learned and Perspective in which they can demonstrate their interpretation of data.

After telling a story, each teacher presented the country or region’s habitat, culture, and customs to the children and followed this with compare and contrast questioning and discussion.

Children then moved to their tables to decorate a costume representative of each region or country studied.  They cut out and dressed their gingerbread girl or boy and glued on a flag to represent the area.

Each student completed a wonderful keepsake gingerbread folder containing all of their personal gingerbreads.
